RESHMA DATAR, INDIA

DIRECTOR, TRAUMA & WELLNESS EDUCATOR, E-RYT 500, YACEP

Hi, my name is Reshy, founder of ATHA, an internationally registered RYS200 school with Yoga Alliance. I am a Yoga Teacher (E-RYT500) and Educator, licensed Massage Therapist, Fitness Trainer, Health and Resilience Coach with a passion for helping others thrive. My journey into the world of health and fitness began over 20 years ago, when I discovered my passion for motivating students and clients to achieve their fitness and health goals, and inspiring them to lead healthier lifestyles. In addition to becoming a personal coach, I pursued studies in Community Welfare in Australia, working extensively within Human Services and Community Welfare. This combination of health and community outreach became a perfect match in shaping who I am today.

Yoga is much more than achieving a specific posture; it is also about appreciating one’s uniqueness and adapting to change. I am very passionate about the therapeutic elements and benefits of yoga and love working individually with those who face challenges.

Even when teaching groups, I encourage a breath-centric and individualized practice which suits you, moment to moment.

By working in multicultural populations (India, Asia, Europe, Australia, U.S.A) I have learned that interacting without prejudice and respecting boundaries and special needs is essential for building relationships based on trust and compassion thereby creating an inclusive society and yoga landscape for all.

My teaching method is trauma informed and sensitive to the specific needs of students and populations who might be new or nervous to try yoga. My teaching approach is fun, student oriented, encouraging and empowering. Through my own lived experience, I am thankful for the ability to navigate and adapt to life’s curve balls, which only motivates me to keep learning, keep showing up, and allows me not only to be inspired, but to inspire others on this continuous journey of learning, sharing and evolving.

Certifications and specialties include:

  • Registered Yoga Teacher with Yoga Alliance, E-RYT500
  • Science of Pranayama
  • Trauma Informed and Therapeutic Approaches
  • YACEP (Yoga Alliance Continuing Education Provider)
  • Yoga Anatomy, Practices and Principles by Leslie Kaminoff
  • Licensed Massage Therapist
  • ISSA Fitness Trainer for Strength, Conditioning and Functional Training
  • Community Welfare Worker with experience in Case Management for Complex Needs

I believe learning should be dynamic, fun, inclusive and less scary, with a mindset of not always knowing the answers – because this, of course, is the first step to transformation.

“The success of Yoga does not lie in the ability to perform postures but in how it positively changes the way we live our life and our relationships.”
